All the news the past few days is about the takedown/de-peering of McColo, which according to some reports was hosting the C&Cs (command-and-control hosts) from some of the largest botnets around. In other news, "Pangea" took down a slew of drug peddling spammers. This should probably not distract us from the also recent revelations about just how much money spammers can make on very, very little investment and a paltry response rate. And finally, the stupidity of some people is enough to make you wonder just what they won't believe, no matter the consequences.

Rob McEwen launches new site for invaluement DNSBL
A mix of three different DNSBLs, one a URI blacklist, one a standard "sender IP" blacklist, and another expressed in terms of whole netblocks, Rob's invaluement DNSBL service launched recently. It's a for-pay service, and though I don't subscribe, I know folks who do who report that it is effective at catching stuff other DNSBLs do not.

Davidson proves to be a scumbag to the last
Unable to face his own failure to evade prosecution and sentencing, and unable to bear imprisonment, even of the most country club sort, "spam king" Eddie Davidson walked off from prison and finally shot his wife and two of his children, killing two and leaving two as orphans. As much as he deserved all the punishments that could be devised, and as much as his final actions prove what a sociopath he was, our thoughts are with his remaining family, who did not deserve this at all.
For more details, see this Denver Post article.
