new pats posted - 20080819 (maintenance pats release)

31771 patterns, 11369 right anchor strings, 109713 test IPs.

Contribs from last week.

NOTE that I've added the 'UNASSIGNED' type to rightanchors, so any
rightanchors that had been tagged with type unassigned (which would
previously default to 'generic') are now explicitly tagged as such.

Was asked to start tracking couplets (pattern class and tech, taken
together as a sort of meta-identifier); there are no new couplets in
this release.

new pats posted - 20080723 (maintenance pats release)

31595 patterns, 11851 right anchor strings, 109056 test IPs.

A few contribs from the past few days.

Was asked to start tracking couplets (pattern class and tech, taken
together as a sort of meta-identifier); there is one new couplet in
this release ('dynamic/wifi').

Note also that rightanchors was not properly recognizing type "webhost";
anything besides static/generic/dynamic/mixed was being defaulted to
generic. This has been fixed. Thanks to Chris Candreva for the catch.

Note that from 20080304 on, we will be including patterns for the
'outmx' tech type again, these should be understood as known legitimate
mail server naming conventions for their domain and you may wish to
exclude them from your use of the distro.

I've made sure to exclude outmx and webhost regexes from the exim and
postfix flat file distributions, so we should be safe there.

Those using the DNSBL interface will note that a return value of
127.0.2.11 now denotes an 'outmx'. This should not affect users of
the sendmail package, as I've not integrated support for scoring on
that basis into the package. Users of other DNSBL-aware tools should
modify their software, as we'll be adding a lot more of these in the
coming weeks.

new pats posted - 20080623 (maintenance pats release)

31353 patterns, 11872 right anchor strings, 108772 test IPs.

Contribs from the past couple days.

Was asked to start tracking couplets (pattern class and tech, taken
together as a sort of meta-identifier); there are no new couplets in
this release.

A couple of class corrections, and the very last of the CBL vs. EL
run candidates, for reals this time. Will start another resolve run
soon and see how we're doing. Last I checked, EL matched 99.0064%
of the hosts in CBL with rDNS as of 122407. As there is a lot of
overlap with SBL and our own local "static spammer" blacklist, I
think that's pretty good, and probably more like six nines of the
hosts that aren't static spammer netblocks. Will do more testing
soon.

pretty much down to where all the EL-unmatched hosts in CBL run number
less than fifty instances; still some com.br, net.ua, com.ar, com.ua,
ne.jp, co.uk, com.tw, edu.tw, com.pl, net.pl, co.jp, kiev.ua domains to
add, but none with more than ~30 instances. Will tackle those next week.

Mostly some pats for hosts in the recent CBL run that didn't have pats
yet; a *lot* of in-addr.arpa hosts. If, like any other sane person, you
block on rDNS *containing* in-addr.arpa, on grounds that the ISP in
question is staffed by morons, this will matter little or not at all for
you save a few sibtele.com, entelnet.bo, and shahrad.net patterns.

new pats posted - 20080515 (maintenance pats release)

29805 patterns, 11859 right anchor strings, 99415 test IPs.

Contribs from yesterday, some QA, some catchup on old queue. Have been
trying to beef up the right anchor dynamics while pruning some prone to
FPs because they're static or mixed.

Was asked to start tracking couplets (pattern class and tech, taken
together as a sort of meta-identifier); there are three new couplets in
this release ('static/frame', for frame relay, 'static/broadband' for
broadband, and 'static/serial' for serial line).

29361 patterns, 11025 right anchor strings, 99119 test IPs.

A few contribs. Mostly QA on right anchors. I've been looking at my list
of outscatter sources (i.e., "known sources of mail", even if it is
outscatter) and removing static right anchors that they match, even if
generic, because I eventually want to get rightanchors back to being a
list of all dynamics; having statics and mixed and so forth in there
just seems like more trouble than it's worth, frankly, especially when
the vast majority of same already have a pattern that matches the same
set of hosts.
