KnowSpam to Shut Down Unexpectedly
Annoying, but effective (if you consider challenge/response effective, rather than an abuse amplifier) C/R system KnowSpam has announced, somewhat briefly, that they will cease operations June 25 of this year.
The weird thing, for me, about this unexpected shutdown is that I have a lot of friends who use (or used, at one point, anyway) KnowSpam. I wonder if it's because people like me refused to answer, and sometimes even blocked, the stupid C/R mail as abuse? Or maybe it's just simple economics; as spam rises, C/R bandwidth consumed per user must also be rising as well. Maybe they just couldn't afford their bandwidth. If anyone knows the real scopp, I'd love to hear what happened. (via kottke)
