Links Roundup

The big news for the last week has been the arrest of 'King of Spam' Robert Soloway. And there was much rejoicing, though little widespread belief that it would have that much effect on overall spam volumes. In other news, some people are having good success with a p0f (passive TCP fingerprinting) scanner as a way to detect spam and abuse; there's a module for EL that tried this a couple of years ago, and we found it didn't really tell us anything new; perhaps some finer-tuned detection would benefit, I suppose - at the time, all we were detecting was major OS (i.e., Windows) rather than sub-release (e.g., Windows XP SP 1). Given the numbers found in Joe Stewart's report on SpamThru, maybe it's time to try again.
